Dr. Theodote K. Pontikes is a Chicago native who completed her undergraduate studiesat the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)-Honors College, graduating summa cumlaude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in French. She also earned her Medical Doctorate degree from UIC’s College of Medicine.
Dr. Pontikes completed General Psychiatry residency training at the University of Chicago, where she served as inpatient chief resident and trained as a Clinical MedicalEthics Fellow at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. She then completed subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Massachusetts GeneralHospital/McLean Hospital program (Boston, MA) and further subspecialty training inPsychosomatic Medicine (Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry) at Cambridge Health Alliance[with a focus in Family Medicine and Women’s Health] (Cambridge, MA).
In 2013, Dr. Pontikes joined Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC) as an outpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist and as a faculty member of the Stritch School of Medicine, where she is currently a Professor. As of July 2021, she is the program director of the Psychiatry residency program at LUMC. Dr. Pontikes is also experienced in systems-of-care, and in 2017 earned a MBA degree with honors in Health Care Management (Loyola University Chicago).
Dr. Pontikes is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in General Psychiatry; Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She is also certified in Obesity Medicine by the American Board ofObesity Medicine. Dr. Pontikes has been awarded Distinguished Fellow status in both theAmerican Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the AmericanPsychiatric Association (APA) and is actively involved in Illinois’s respective regional organizations. She currently serves as the President of the Illinois Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ICCAP), a regional organizational of AACAP.
Dr. Pontikes is especially interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and integrated care for pediatric and adult patient populations; clinical medical ethics; transcultural issues and the reduction of healthcare disparities, as well as in patient safety; healthcare policy and advocacy; medical education and mentorship.
